Sukkot

| |

Happy Feast of the Tabernacles! I learned today that this feast is supposed to happen this week from a wonderful teaching at church today. It was a little weird only in the fact that this "church" is in the middle of a 40 day fast, and here's this guy teaching us about a feast to be had this week! And he was really excited about it. » read more »

The New Testament In Scots

The New Testament In Scots, tranlsated by William Laughton Lorimer (LL.D, F.B.A.) (1885 - 1967), was first published in 1983 by Southside (Publishers) Ltd, Edinburg, Scotland. I can't remember where I ran across this work, but it was the audio recording of the four gospels by Tom Fleming that fascinated me. This is a new translation, directly from the best Greek texts available. The written tranlsation places the story of the woman caught in adultery, and a few other doubtful passages, in an appendix, but Mr. Fleming (O.B.E., C.V.O) reads them in context. » read more »

Timeline

After much research, I've become convinced that Archbishop Ussher's historical timeline (the history of the world beginning at creation) is correct. His Annals of the World is a comprehensive analysis of Biblical timelines, effectively resolving all apparent contradictions (e.g., the Israelite sojourn into Egypt). Masterfully done.

Women in the church

|

In 1 Timothy 2:11-15, Paul wrote:

A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint. » read more »

Dividing Word

| | |

One of the more divisive topics in the church today is creationism, specifically young-earth creationism. The vast majority of the modern church--in America anyway--has swallowed the old-earth, evolutionary hogwash, hook, line and sinker. They tend to get visibly upset, emotional, when they meet a fellow believer who actually believes in what the Word plainly says. Such an emotional reaction tends to imply a weak faith (in their old-earth belief). After that, reasoned discourse is usually very difficult if not impossible. » read more »

As it was in the days of Noah...

| | |

The title of this post is a quote from Matthew 24:37: "But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be." (NKJV) In the past, I have wondered just what this meant. I recently learned something that may shed some light on this issue. » read more »

To those who hate Zion

I pray that all who hate the city of Zion will be made ashamed and forced to turn and run. And don't let anyone who passes by say to them, "The LORD bless you! I give you my blessing in the name of the LORD." (Psalm 129:5,8 CEV)

Know the Word

I was writing a comment to the evangelism thread, noting its fizzling participation. I was positing various reasons for this apparent lack of interest, and penned the following (hereby removed from there in favor of here): » read more »
