Know the Word
I was writing a comment to the evangelism thread, noting its fizzling participation. I was positing various reasons for this apparent lack of interest, and penned the following (hereby removed from there in favor of here):
There may be another reason for the less than stellar participation: few believers know the Word. I know this is all too true. Believers should not only be ashamed of themselves, but they should get up off their rears, set their priorities properly (Biblically), and spend time in the Word. Whoops. There's the conundrum, eh? How can they set their priorities in a Biblical fashion if they don't know the Bible? How can they know the Bible if they don't set their priorities in a Biblical fashion? And so the lukewarm believer gets stuck in his comfortable rut, never really growing up. How nice for him.
Do you practice the spiritual disciplines regularly (e.g., accountability, adoration, confession, fasting, fellowship, forgiveness, giving, meditation, prayer, service, silence, simplicity, solitude, study, submission, witness, worship)? How many of you gladly sacrifice leisure time (e.g., TV, sleep) to spend time with your heavenly Father? I know I face the temptation to relax rather than spending that time with my Master. I'm sure we all have such temptations, but we needn't give in to them. It truly is our choice. When we choose rightly, the Lord will give us the strength to obey; and obedience has awesome rewards.
